Why Nutrition?
Almost 1 in 2 children in Guatemala suffers from chronic malnutrition. That is 45% of children under the age of five.
Guatemala has the highest rate of chronic childhood malnutrition in Latin America.
The vast majority live in rural areas. In some rural parts of Chiquimula, chronic malnutrition can reach 80%. The first 1,000 days of life are critical; the damage caused by chronic malnutrition during this period can be irreversible.

ACUTE MALNUTRITION
Acute malnutrition is a condition characterized by rapid and significant weight loss due to a severe nutrient deficiency. It occurs when a child's weight is considerably below the appropriate level for their height and age. It is classified into three levels: mild, moderate, and severe. In the most severe cases, it can compromise vital functions by affecting organs and muscles, putting the child's life at risk.
